Crisis Intervention Specialist

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer, the Crisis Intervention Specialist works with the Crisis Intervention Manager and the Medical Case Manager Supervisor. The primary role is to provide psycho-social/rehabilitative services to persons with mental illness. This is a residential housing position working with adults. Services may include, but are not limited to, assessment, development and measurable treatment goals and objectives, referral, linkage, advocacy, monitoring, crisis intervention and continuity of care. Provide individual, family, and group counseling. The overall goal of this position is to maximize the residential potential level of functioning, reduce hospitalization and aid in the reintegration of residents into the community.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ability to effectively manage a large caseload of consumers with varying needs.
  2. Ability to problem solve, exercise good judgment, and make sound decisions.
  3. Skilled in using tact and diplomacy in interacting with staff and consumers.
  4. Ability to work as a team member.
  5. Able to maintain work in 95% compliance of standards at all times.
  6. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  7. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
  8. Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  9. Must be able to work flexible hours: evenings and weekend
  10. Performs record keeping and reporting duties related to crisis intervention and management.
  11. Performs other continuity of care duties and attend related meetings as directed by the Chief Operating Officer and/or the Crisis Intervention Manager.
  12. Must have a knowledge and understanding of Behavior Health and be able to facilitate group discussions that addresses past traumatic experiences, mental health, and substance misuse.
  13. Knowledge and understanding of de-escalation techniques (SAMA training or some other effective de-escalation intervention) and interventions to assist residents in managing anger, frustration, and conflict resolution in residential community setting.
  14. Must be able to build rapport and trust with individuals who are dealing with challenging life events and past trauma and are sometimes difficult to engage in treatment.
  15. Knowledge and ability to teach daily life skills (example: building good relationships, improving self-control, showing respect to others, developing trust, dealing with disappointment) to help improve resident responses to stressful situations and managing difficult emotions and situations.
  16. Actively participates in ongoing training and development as directly by the agency and or funding sources.
  17. Agrees to participate in any and all Quality Management activities
  18. Attend meeting and will perform other duties as required.
  19. Active participates in any fund raising opportunities provided by ASD
  20. Must physically work on site.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, or certified alcohol and drug counselor, rehabilitation, counseling, sociology, human growth and development. Writing and organizational skills are required for this position. General office skills are necessary. Sensitivity to culturally, racially and sexually diverse client, staff and volunteer populations is essential. An awareness of AIDS/HIV-related issues and two (2) years of social work experience are desired.

WORK HOURS:
Regular office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, but flexible for evenings and weekends. This is a full time position that will require occasional additional hours.

SALARY RANGE: $45,000.00 – $53,000.00 per year
